Paul Stubitsch believes his IT team at plastics-manufacturer Wilbert Inc. should follow project management by the book.
Fortunately for the members of his team (whose expertise lies in information technology and business process, not project management), the book he wants them to follow is Bare Bones Project Management, an influential, compact guide for professional project management by IT Catalysts' Bob Lewis. Better yet TeamDynamix incorporates the entire Bare Bones approach into a user-friendly module within the Enterprise 5.0 project management software.
Bare Bones strives to simplify project management. Fifty-four power-packed pages provide step-by-step instruction to successfully managing less-complex projects, from beginning to end. It encompasses sponsorship and governance, understanding the project, project staffing, planning the work, and launching, managing and closing out the project.
TeamDynamix dissected the entire Bare Bones methodology and developed the tools and templates for the Wilbert IT team to easily implement it. The company also prepared a 29-page training manual and presented a six-hour course in conjunction with it.
The training manual includes every concept, every step, every document that Bare Bones author Bob Lewis recommends – from deciding who has the authority to sponsor the project to drilling down on high-level tasks to shut-down steps.
Stubitsch states that TeamDynamix was the ideal partner to develop the Bare Bones module.
“The Bare Bones methodology fits right in with the TD software,” he said. “What I like about the TeamDynamix site as a whole is that it manages the things that need to be managed without introducing a lot of complexity. I fully expect that by combining the Bare Bones methodology within the Team Dynamix toolkit, my group will be much better prepared to consistently manage, communicate and execute the projects we undertake.”
The Wilbert team will find out just how user-friendly the Bare Bones module is when they begin new projects later this year.
“The proof is in the pudding, but the initial indication is good,” said Stubitsch. “My team certainly understands and appreciates the need to have a plan and a process for executing it.”
TeamDynamix is available to help additional clients implement the Bare Bones methodology into the Enterprise 5.0 project management software.
“Bare Bones is amazing in its effectiveness and simplicity,” said TeamDynamix partner Andrew Graf. “Most mid-market organizations could benefit from this practical approach to consistently completing projects on time and on budget.”
